2006 genocidal massacre at Chengchoalai campus marked in Vanni, Jaffna amidst PTA-threats

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 14 August 2019, 23:31 GMT]
Amidst PTA-threats coming from the occupying Sinhala Army, military intelligence and the SL Police against inscribing the names and photos of the school-girls, who perished in a targeted aerial massacre by the SL Air Force in 2006, the parents of the students commemorated the victims of the attack by putting up temporary paper photos on the arch. An emotional remembrance event took place at Va'l'li-punam in Mullaiththeevu district with the participation of TNA politicians. Vanni Cross and Chegnchoalai Remembrance Organisation organised the event jointly. In the meantime, Jaffna University Student Union (JUSU) also staged a remembrance event within the premises of the Jaffna University on Wednesday.

While the parents and the organisers were under pressure not to name the SL Air Force as the killers, the JUSU in Jaffna went ahead calling the attack as a massacre carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The aerial massacre was a deliberate genocidal act, which was known to the supreme commander of the SL military, Mahinda Rajapaksa, his sibling Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was the SL Defence Secretary and the three commanders of the SLAF, SLA and SLN.

The common flame of sacrifice was lit by Mr Kanagalingam, who lost two of his daughters, Nirosha and Niruba, at the aerial massacre. ITAK Leader Mavai Senathirajah and Vanni District TNA Parliamentarian Dr S.Sivamohan ceremonially declared opened the arch.

SL military intelligence operatives and policemen were monitoring the Vanni event to disengage the participants from inscribing the names and photos of the victims on the arch.

How could the occupying SL military allowed to erect numerous monuments while refusing and suppressing Tamils from remembering their dead, asked Mr Easan, who is the secretary of the organisation that coordinated the construction of the remembrance arch.
