Tamils mobilise in Vanni exposing lopsided law enforcement of genocidal Sri Lanka

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 24 September 2019, 15:06 GMT]
Tamil lawyers in North boycotted the courts on Tuesday condemning the failure of the law enforcement authorities of the unitary SL State that failed to respect the decision by the Magistrate of Mullaiththeevu Courts. Covering their mouths with black ribbons, the lawyers numbering around one hundred, gathered inside the premises of the Magistrates’ Court in Mullaiththeevu. In the meantime, the grassroots organisations including the Catholic and Saivaist dignitaries took to the street in Mullaith-theevu staging a protest march from Mullaiththeevu old hospital to the District Secretariat passing the court on their way. An overwhelming majority of those marched in the protest were young generation Tamils.

The protest was organised by Mullaiththeevu-based resistance movement, the Tamil Heritage Forum.

The SL Attorney General must take action against the contempt of court displayed by Gnanasana Thero who was recently released by the SL President from prison for the same conduct, the Tamil lawyers said.

If no action is taken against the Secretary of the Sinhala extremist Bodu Bala Sena before next Friday, the lawyers warned to intensify their protest.

The event which unfolded at Neeraaviyadi on Monday has reinvigorated the long-attested perception among Tamils that the SL judiciary would never deliver justice to Tamils, said a statement issued by Mullaiththeevu-based resistance movement, the Tamil Heritage Forum.

The event has also proved that be it hybrid mechanism promoted by the USA and the European countries, would not deliver justice to Tamils, it further said.

The “democratic space” that was spoken about in the wake of the 2015 election has no meaning, the statement noted.

The privileges given to Buddhism in the SL constitution linking it to the Sinhala ethnicity was eradicating the history of the existence of Tamil Buddhism in the island, the statement by the resistance movement observed.
