Shanmuganathan Sasikaran and Shanmuganathan Ravi Chandren of Velanai East, Jaffna, who have been on remand since October 1998 are indicted under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) by the Attorney General in the Vavuniya High Court.

This followed a directive by the Supreme Court to the Attorney General to consider filing an indictment or discharging them. The Bench comprised Justice Mark Fernando, Justice, A.S.Wijetunge and Justice Shiranie Bandaranayake.

Petitioner's Senior Counsel Somasuntharam Thevaraja instructed by Attorney at law K.M.Sasangan supported the fundamental rights application of the petitioners in the Supreme Court.

Counsel Thevaraja submitted that petitioner Ravi Chandran was arrested at the Allaipitty check point while returnung from his brother's home at Ariyalai on October 13, 1998 while Sasikaran was arrested on October 5, 1998 at his uncle's home at Velanai East.

Both petitioners were arrested by the SL Navy. They were later remanded by the Anuradhapura Magistrate. They are now on remand at the Kalutara Prison, he concluded.
