Arrests in Vadamaradchi

Three young men were arrested by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers at Kudaththanai in the Vadamaradchi East region in the Jaffna Peninsula this morning sources said.
They were arrested by soldiers who went to the village in 6 tractors around 5 a.m. the sources said. The arrested have been identified as: Sellathurai Senthuran, 19, Iyathurai Paskaran, 20 and Anatharasa Arulrasa, 26. They are detained at the Pt.Pedro SLA camp, the sources said. Relatives who went to the camp were allowed to visit them. The relatives said the detainees had been assaulted. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Police arrested yesterday, Samythambi Parameswaran, 32, a father of two, at the Eravur check post. The man was on his way to Batticaloa. The police said he has been wanted for a long time on suspicion for having links with the Liberation Tigers. He is currently being detained at the Eravur Police station.
