Police post attacked

The Liberation Tigers attacked a Sri Lankan Police post at Sakamam road in Akkaraipattu in the south-eastern coast of the Ampara District, around 9.45 p.m. yesterday, killing a policeman said sources.
Two policemen and a home guard were also wounded in the attack. Police said Sri Lanka Army reinforcement rushed to the area and repulsed the attack. Residents said a fire-fight lasted for about half an hour. Sources in Ampara said two civilians were wounded in the cross-fire. One of them is identified as S.Mohanadas, a nursing officer attached to the Nintavur hospital. The wounded are admitted at the Ampara district hospital, the sources said. Meanwhile unidentified gunmen shot and killed the Manager of the Co-operative Whole Sale Establishment in Jaffna, G.K.R.Premalal, around 6.15 p.m. yesterday police in the northern town said. He was killed in the high security zone of the Jaffna town.
