CVF member killed

A member of the Civilian Volunteer Force (CVF), was shot dead by unidentified youth at Kalviyankadu junction, near Iruthayapuram Police sentry post in the Batticaloa town around 9.30 a.m. this morning said sources.

Sebastian Antonythas, 36, is a CVF member attached to the Kaluwanchikudy Police station. His body was brought to the Batticaloa hospital around 10 a.m.

The Sri Lanka Army soldiers cordoned off the Iruthayapuram area following the incident, residents said.

Meanwhile a policeman who was reported to have been abducted by the Liberation Tigers was arrested yesterday at Neelavanai police post, said sources.

The Policeman attached to the Kathankudy police station, was travelling with a young woman from Batticaloa to Kalmunai when he was arrested, the sources added.
