Tigers list captured weapons

The Voice of Tigers (VOT) said this morning that the Liberation Tigers had captured a massive haul of weapons from the Sri Lankan Army which they attacked on Thursday, December 4, at Mannankkulam.

The Radio said that 37 Tiger fighters were killed in the attack and the radio gave the names of 34, remaining three are to be announced this evening, said the radio. 2 Majors, 2 Captains, 9 lieutenants and 6 2nd Lieutenants were among those killed in Thursday's fighting. Of these, 17 are from Jaffna peninsula.

The following is the list of weapons, which according to the VOT, the LTTE captured from the Sri Lankan Army on Thursday.

  1. General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) - 05
  2. Light Machine Guns (LMG) - 96
  3. AK type assault rifles - 148
  4. Sniper riffles - 04
  5. Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher (RPG - 7) - 05
  6. Commando mortars - 03
  7. 40 mm. pistols -13
  8. Shells - 36
  9. Grenades - 123
  10. Claymore mines - 19
  11. Ammunition (7.62 mm) - 41040


The VOT said the heavy weapons were also captured, but did not specify the details. It said this was the Liberation Tigers 5th counter attack on Operation Jayasikurui, the governments largest offensive against the Liberation Tigers to date.
