TULF urges Tamils to shun UNP, PA

The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) has decided not support any of the two main parties in the forthcoming presidential elections, said party sources
The decision was made in a meeting held today where all TULF MPs and other representatives of the party were present, the sources said. After a lengthy discussion at the meeting, they decided not to support the ruling People's Alliance (PA) or opposition United National Party (UNP) in the coming election. They also decided to request Tamils not to vote anyone belonging to these parties, the sources said. Party sources had earlier indicated that the TULF would back the PA's Presidential candidate, the incumbent Chandrika Kumaratunge. Political analysts say the Tamil vote would be an important factor for both leading parties, particularly for that which fails to mobilise the Sinhala nationalist vote.
