Civil Affairs Officers appointed for Tamil areas

Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Brigadiers, a Naval Commodore and a Senior Superintendent of Police have been appointed as Civil Affairs Officers to five administrative districts in the Tamil-dominated north-east province, government sources said.

These appointments have been made under the Emergency Regulations promulgated by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge.

The names of the Civil Affairs Officers and their respective districts are:

1. Mannar district: Brigadier M. Justin Alwis
2. Vavuniya district: Brigadier K. Piyasoma
3. Trincomalee district: Commodore S.R.Samaratunge
4. Batticaloa district: Brigadier Sardha Tissa Abeyaretna
5. Ampara district: Senior Superintendent of Police P.A.D.Premaretna Perera
