Tigers shell Thenmaradchi

The Liberation Tigers launched artillery and mortar attacks on Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camps and police stations in the Chavakachcheri and Kodikamam area in the Thenmaradchi Division of the Jaffna District, sources said.
At least six artillery shells fell on the 52-3 Brigade camp at Chavakachcheri, and one shell fell on the Chavakachcheri police station, the sources said. The SLA's 52-1 Brigade camp was also shelled they added. Another shell exploded behind the office of the Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) in the Chavakachcheri town, the sources said. All government offices and market in these areas have been closed down, Kachcheri sources said. Meanwhile civilians living south of Jaffna-Kandy road, in the Thenmaradchi Division, have begun to move to safer areas. However, the SLA soldiers, manning the check-points, have been preventing them from moving out to safer areas the sources added. Tension prevails in the area, the sources added.
