Three Sri Lanka army (SLA) soldiers were killed and nineteen wounded in the early hours of the morning today around 2 a.m. when the Liberation Tigers attacked the SLA camp at the state cadju plantation on the Valaichenai-Vaakarai road. The camp is situated about 22 km. north of Valaichenai at the Kirumichchai junction.
SLA sources said that the army repulsed the attacked and had recovered the bodies of some LTTE fighters killed in the attack. The Tigers had shelled the SLA camp at Vakarai, about 10 kilometers north of the cadju farm, during the attack. The SLA fired heavy artillery from its base in Kalkudah, 3 kilometers east of Valaichenai town in the direction of the cadju farm until dawn when reinforcements were rushed to the area.
