Navaly St. Peters Church consecrated

The consecration ceremony of the Navaly St. Peters Church in Jaffna district was held this afternoon after the shrine was heavily damaged five years ago by a Sri Lankan Air Force strike during the SLA's Operation "Leap Forward".

At least 140 civilians were killed and many more were wounded during the aerial attack on July 9, 1995.

Although the church has since been repaired, it hasn't been consecrated until now. This afternoon, the ceremonial consecration was held under the guidance of Vicar General Selvarajah, church, sources said.
