Report implicates SLA soldiers further

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 01 February 2000, 20:23 GMT]
The bullet found in the body of Ida Carmalita, the young girl who was raped and killed last year in Pallimunai, was from a weapon in the possession of soldiers on duty from the Sri Lanka army camp in the village according to the government analystĚs report submitted to the Mannar district court today.

The report said that the soldiers were those who were pointed out by residents of Pallimunai as the persons who had raped and killed Ida Carmalita during the identification parade held by the Mannar courts last year.

Pallimunai is a coastal suburb of Mannar town. The girl was raped and murdered on July 12, last year allegedly by soldiers from the Pallimunai SLA camp. The case was postponed to March 14.

The Mannar judge ordered that the two suspected in the case, both soldiers from the Pallimunai camp, be remanded further.
