Detained students released

Two students, Priya and Vinoth, and their mother Sriskandarajah Valarmathi were released by the Jaffna Police around 2.30 p.m. this afternoon, security sources said.

The mother and her two children were brought to Palaly Army Headquarters by a special plane from Colombo around 1.30 p.m. today.

Mr. Kahawatte, a Police Officer who accompanied the three from Colombo, handed them to the HQ Inspector of Police, Kankesanthurai, Mr. Upudeniya, at the Palaly air base. Later they were handed to R. Mahalingam, Grama Sevaka Officer, Urumpirai West. Thereafter they were brought to the Jaffna Police and released.

Ms. A. S. Nadarajah and K. Anandarajah, Principals of Vasavilan MMV and Urumpirai Chandrodhaya Vidyalayam respectively were at the Jaffna Police when the mother and her two children were released. Zonal Director of Education R. Varatharajah was also there.

Sriskandarajah Valarmathi and her two children were taken into custody on January 25. Later they were taken to Colombo for interrogation.
