Three UNP members arrested under PTA

Three prominent members of the main United National Party (UNP) in the Batticaloa District were arrested by officials from the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) yesterday, sources in Batticaloa said.
The CID team which went from Colombo arrested J.P.Fernando, R.Ignatious and K.Kathirkamapodi. They were brought to the Capital yesterday, sources said. The UNP Organiser for the Batticaloa District, Rajan Sathyamoorthy, is reported to be absconding the sources added. UNP sources said that Sathyamoorthy has been asked to report to the CID Head Quarters in Colombo. Police sources said they were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act(PTA), and they would be questioned regarding their alleged contacts with the Liberation Tigers during campaigning for the last presidential election, in areas held by the LTTE.
