Community centre destroyed

Sri Lanka Army soldiers demolished a community centre in Kachchai, Chavakachcheri in the Thenmaradchi Division on the Jaffna peninsula last week, said sources.
Administrators of the centre have made a complaint at the Thenmaradchi Divisional Secretariat and the Chavakachcheri Urban Council. They said damages are estimated at 275,000 rupees. The troops took the bricks and timber from the building to put up defence positions in the Thanangilappu area, they said. Meanwhile sources said several houses and public buildings along the front lines have also been demolished by the troops. Kachcheri sources hundreds of houses have been demolished. However, details were not available, as civilians are not allowed into these areas. Meanwhile Sri Lanka Army soldiers in Jaffna town arrested two youths on 13 February, according to Human Rights Commission in Jaffna. Constantine Rohan, 26, of Water Tank road, Gurunakar was arrested at Vembadi junction, and Poologasunderam Selvanesan, 23, of Kanapuram, Navanthurai was arrested while he was selling fish at the Koddadi market. SLA authorities have confirmed the arrests with the Human Rights Commission.
