The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is making arrangements for the parents and relatives to visit the 15 POWs, held by the Liberation Tigers, Harsha Gunawardene, the spokesman for the organisation in Colombo said.
The Defence Ministry informed the ICRC yesterday it will grant permission for the visit. However, permission has not been given for journalists and politicians to visit the POWs, Mr. Gunawardene said. The Tigers said journalists and politicians would be also allowed to visit the POWs. The POWs have been on hunger strike in Puthukudiyiruppu in the Mullaithivu District since February 10th, demanding the government take steps to secure their release.
