A conference to finalize the inauguration of a passenger ship service between Trincomalee and Kankesanthurai (KKS) is to be held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on February 23rd, Wednesday, sources said.

Several high level Government officials, including the Colombo Harbour Master, the Deputy Harbour Master in Trincomalee, and the Trincomalee resident representative of Sri Lanka Ports Authority, have been invited to attend this conference, sources added.

The vessel "City of Trincomalee" is to be used for the proposed passenger ship service.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reached an agreement with the parties concerned to provide escort to the proposed passenger ship, sources said.

Official sources are optimistic that the date for the inauguration of the proposed passenger ship service will be fixed at this conference.
