38 detainees held in Vavuniya

Thirty eight persons including, 4 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers are held in the custody of the Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) and Military Intelligence, in Vavuniya, said Human Rights Commission sources.

Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) of the Police in Vavuniya has arrested 22 Tamils and they are detained for interrogation.

Meanwhile 16 persons are detained by the intelligence unit of the SLA in Vavuniya. Among them are 4 soldiers, the sources added.

Human Rights Commission sources also said that Rasiah Thenmoli (31), a woman who was employed in a private dispensary at the Second Cross Street, Vavuniya was arrested by a special team of TID (Terrorist Investigation Division) who came from Colombo on Saturday.

The TID also searched the house of the arrested woman at Kovil Road, Kurumankadu in Vavuniya.

According to the Human Rights Commission officials, the woman is detained at Colombo Police Head Quarters for interrogation in connection with the bomb blast at the Municipal Council Grounds in Colombo on December 18.
