[TamilNet, Saturday, 13 December 1997, 23:59 GMT]
Informed sources in Jaffna said today that the government has appointed Brigadier Mohan Rockwood to oversee the local government elections in the peninsula which are expected to be held in late February 1998.

All parties which intend to contest the local polls in Jaffna will have to discuss with him about their campaign plans, security etc.

The PLOTE and the EPRLF met with the Brigadier today at the Div. 51 headquarters at Atchelu. The EPDP had separate discussions with him about their elections plans yesterday said the sources.

Brig. Mohan Rockwood was earlier handling work connected with the supply of essential services and other civilian matters in Trincomalee. Later he became commander of the 17th Brigade in Nilaveli in Trincomalee. He hails from a family of military officers.
