LTTE - SLA clash at Madduvil

Fighting was reported between the Sri Lanka Army soldiers and the Liberation Tigers in Madduvil in the Thenmaradchi Division on the Jaffna peninsula from 4.30 p.m.this evening.
Details of casualties were not immediately known. However two school boys were admitted to the Jaffna teaching hospital this evening with gun injuries, said medical sources. The students were identified as Sathyaseelan Thayakaran, 14, and Markandu Kannbhavan, 16, of Madduvil South. They sustained injuries when they were attending tuition classes, residents said. Sources in Jaffna said the Liberation Tigers and the SLA had also exchanged mortar fire in the Elephant Pass area in the early hours of the morning today. In a separate incident. Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) personnel attacked a group of fishermen who were fishing in the seas of Vadamaradchi East in the south eastern coast of the peninsula around 8.30 a.m. this morning. The attack continued for about 45 minutes residents said. The SLN stopped the attack following complaints made by villagers to the military officials in the area, sources said. Boats and fishing gear were damaged due to the attack they said.
