A9 - SLA tries again

Heavy fighting broke out between the Sri Lanka army (SLA) and the Liberation Tigers on the A9 highway between Eluthumadduval and Muhamaalai from the early hours of the morning today as the army made yet another attempt to recapture more than six kilometers of this road to the Elephant Pass garrison.
Residents in Chavakachcheri said that the SLA in Kodikamam has been heavily bombarding the positions of the Liberation Tigers on the A9 highway south of Eluthumadduval and close to Nagar Kovil from the early hours of the morning today. Fighting was also reported this morning near the mangroves of the Thondamanar lagoon in the Varani sector sources said. Meanwhile shells fired by the artillery units of the LTTE towards the defences of the army close to Jaffna town fell on the beaches of Pashaiyoor and Colombuthurai this morning said sources in the north.
