Six military trained Sri Lankan Policemen were wounded when the jeep in which they were traveling was hit by a claymore mine blast this morning around 8.15 a.m. at Annamalai junction on the Mandur-Chavalakadai road, about 42 km. southwest of Batticaloa.
The officer in charge of the Vellaveli Police station was among the injured. The jeep was damaged in the blast. The Vellaveli Police is currently located by the Mandur Special Task Force camp about 35 kilometers south west of Batticaloa. The Liberation Tigers control the large region north of Vellaveli. The Police party from Vellaveli was on its way to Kalmunai from Mandur. It had taken the interior road to Kalmunai instead crossing the lagoon at Mandur and taking the Batticaloa - Kalmunai road.
