Thirty-three Sri Lanka army soldiers were injured and one was killed when the Liberation Tigers shelled SLA's current defence positions on the southeastern coast of Jaffna yesterday according to a press release of the Operational Headquarters of Sri Lanka's Ministry of Defence this morning.

The release said that seventeen soldiers were wounded seriously.

Meanwhile, a military trained Police constable was killed when the Liberation Tigers fired mortars on a sentry post at Aarawantalawa on the Nelukkulam-Cheddikulam road, about 15 kilometers southwest of Mannar around 7.45 a.m. this morning.

Two Policemen at the post were injured. Police sources in Vavuniya said that the Tigers had removed three weapons from the defence position following the attack. The Nelukkulam-Cheddikulam road links the Vavuniya - Mannar road and the Medawachchiya-Mannar road.
