Eight SLA killed in Vavuniya attack

Six Sri Lanka army soldiers were killed and fifteen wounded when the reinforcements which were rushed to the Police sentry post at Arawantalawa that was attacked by the Liberation Tigers this morning were hit by a claymore mine this morning around 11.45 a.m.

Military sources in Colombo, however, said that eight soldiers were killed in the blast.

They said that the Tigers appear to have used the attack on the Police post as a bait to draw the army into the claymore trap.

The sources said that an SLA captain, a seargent major and two seargents were among those killed in the LTTE's claymore attack today.

The SLA reinforcements were returning from a search operation in Arawantalawa where they had gone to counter attack the Tigers who had attacked the Police post there this morning.
