More UNP politicians join SLFP

More activists of the United National Party, including a parliamentarian are due to receive membership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), a major constituent of the ruling Peoples' Alliance, at a ceremony to be chaired by the President Ms Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, SLFP sources said.
Meanwhile the Alternate Group of the United National Party is to contest the forthcoming general election as a constituent party of the People's Alliance. A leader of the group said that they had already taken the necessary measures. Several decisions have already been arrived at granting opportunities to parliamentarians and other political activists of the group. In the meantime, the high command of the United National Party has decided to take disciplinary action against Mr. Ariyapala Walpitigama, one of its parliamentarians of the Trincomalee district. Mr.Walpitigama is a member of the UNP alternate group. He has already been served with a charge sheet in this regard. The disciplinary inquiry against Mr.Walpitigama will be held on Wednesday at Sri Kotha, UNP headquarters in Colombo.
