UNP will oppose Constitutional Bill

The General Secretary of the United National Party Gamini Atukorale said that his party would not support the new constitution bill in the parliament. He added that he has made it clear to the government representatives at a discussion held Wednesday at Temple Trees.
Mr. Gamini Atukorale further stated that his party would oppose the establishment of regional councils in the country. He said the UNP parliamentarians would attend the emergency session of the parliament tomorrow when the government tables the new constitution bill. The UNP parliamentary group and the working committee would call another meeting to make a decision on its future activities. The State-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation said Wednesday that Government of Sri Lanka and the main opposition, United National Party discussed at Temple Trees on the proposed new constitution bill which is to be tabled in parliament Thursday.
