Two more human skeletons were recovered in Kilinochchi this week bringing the total number of skeletons recovered in this area recently to 55, the Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio said Thursday evening.
According to the radio one of the skeleton, with hands tied together with a yellow rope, was recovered by villagers clearing their compound at Uthayanakar. The other skeleton was found at a riverbank close to Xavier shop where government soldiers had a defence post. A sarong with red stripes, a blue shirt and a blue T-shirt were also recovered here, the radio said. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers took control of Kilinochchi after operation Sath Jaya in August 1996. The town was re-captured by the Liberation Tigers in October 1998. The skeletons are believed to the remains of people who had gone to visit relatives in Kilinochchi, when the SLA was in control of the town, and were latter reported 'missing'. 184 civilians had been reported missing during this period, the VoT said.
