Poovarasankulam FDL attacked

A military trained policeman was killed and another seriously wounded when the Liberation Tigers attacked forward defence lines (FDL) in the Poovarasankulam sector in the Vavuniya district around 4.25 p.m. Thursday, security sources said.

Poovarasankulam is about 16 km. west of Vavuniya along the Vavuniya-Mannar trunk road.

The policeman killed in the attack was identified as Reserve Police Constable Anura Lalge Wickrema. His body was brought to the Vavuniya hospital.

The wounded policeman, Ranjith Kumara has been transported to the Anuradhapura military hospital.

The police said the attack has been repulsed and that they have recovered a body of an LTTE member killed in the incident.
