Two soldiers shot dead

Two Sri Lanka Army soldiers attached to the SLA's military intelligence unit were shot dead by suspected members of the Liberation Tigers in the high security zone of Mannar town around 11.10 a.m. Tuesday, security sources said. Two soldiers were also wounded in the incident.
One of the dead soldier was identified as Corporal Perera (28). The wounded soldiers were transported to Anuradhapura hospital by helicopter. The army and police sealed off the town and conducted a search operation. Five youths were arrested on suspicion residents said. Some civilians were assaulted by security personnel, residents said. In a separate incident, an army informant was shot dead by suspected members of the Liberation Tigers in Batticaloa town around 11.30 a.m. this morning. He was identified as Iyathurai Jegan, alias Sekar of Kallady. The police handed over his body to the Batticaloa hospital.
