Tigers shell eastern naval detachment

Five Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) personnel were killed and two others were wounded when the Liberation Tigers launched a mortar attack on a naval detachment at Salaiparu in the Kuchchaveli Division. around 9 a.m. Thursday, security sources in Trincomalee said.
Salapaiaru, is about 10 km north of Trincomalee town on Uppuveli-Kuchchaveli road. In a separate incident in the Jaffna peninsula, at least 10 Sri Lanka Army soldiers were wounded when the Liberation Tigers shelled SLA positions in the Irupaalai East around 4.30 p.m. Wednesday evening said sources. The SLA retaliated by firing shells towards LTTE held areas of Navatkuly and Kaithady, the sources said. The Army has not confirmed Wednesday's attack. According to reports from Jaffna, clashes were reported between the SLA and The Liberation Tigers in Thenmaradchi Thursday morning.
