Three arrested in Jaffna

Three youth who went to purchase tickets to travel to Colombo at the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority for the North office in Jaffna town were arrested and detained by the Sri Lanka army, the Human Rights Commission said Friday. The youth, who were taken into custody on Wednesday, are being held at the 51-2 brigade headquarters, the HR office said. The three are from the village of Atchelu, north of Jaffna town.

The detained youth are- Ponnuthurai Sasikumar, 22, Jeevarajah Rajeeharan, 21 and Nallithamby Sri Rangan, 21.

They had gone to buy tickets on the passenger ship from Jaffna to Tricomalee.

Meanwhile, two Jaffna University students who were killed by the Indian army 12 years ago at the Parameswara junction near the campus were remembered at a function held at the medical faculty Friday. T. Satyendra and S. Jeganathan were killed by Indian soldiers while on their way to the University.
