An argument between some locals and PLOTE cadres ended up in a fracas at the Bangalawadi junction in Velanai. Reports said that one civilian was knifed and some others injured.
PLOTE sources, however, said that the problem had begun when some drunken men had got into an argument with their cadres who were opening a campaign office at the Bangalawadi junction. The inebriated group of men were from the funeral house of one of the three persons who were killed on Sunday when a pressure mine hit their tractor in the Munangu area of Velanai. PLOTE sources in Colombo said that until early morning today they had not received any report about the knifing. Meanwhile the army cordoned off and searched Atchuvely, Thambalai, Valalai and Idaikkaadu in Jaffna in the early hours of the morning yesterday. The search operation was on for more than six hours. The Atchuvely Holy Family convent was also rounded up during the operation said sources in Jaffna.
