Search operation in Mannar

Five people were arrested during a combined search operation by Sri Lanka Army soldiers and police in the Mannar town Wednesday. The operation which began around 9 a.m. went on till noon, local residents said.

Mannar main road, Moor street, Uppukulam and Small Bazar area were sealed off and troops conducted a house-to-house search, they said.

Hundreds of residents were herded to Mannar public ground and questioned in front of masked informants. The five who were identified by the spotters were taken in for further interrogation, police sources said.

All actives in the Mannar town were disrupted during the operation, the sources said.
