Two youths shot dead in Jaffna

Two youths were shot dead by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers near Thankaaval Pillayar temple in Nallur, a suburb of Jaffna town, around 4 p.m. Friday. The army said they were members of the Liberation Tigers. The area was sealed off and thoroughly searched by the soldiers following the incident.

Troops put up road blocks and conducted house to house search operation in the area, residents said.

Army sources said troops rushed to the area on motorcycles following a tip-off about presence LTTE members there. The troops opened fire, killing two of them, they said.

The bodies were handed over at the Jaffna hospital. They are yet to be identified, hospital sources said.
