A Muslim Parliamentarian Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his expulsion from the National Unity Alliance. Mr.Mohideen Abdul Cader said in his petition "NUA leader Ms Ferial Ashraff has no right to expel him from the party."
The plaintiff has sought relief from the Supreme Court, asking the court to order the expulsion null and void. The plaintiff has cited eleven respondents in his petition including Minister Ms. Ferial Ashraff. The Supreme Court fixed the inquiry into this petition on September 03. The expulsion of parliamentarian Mohideen Abdul Cader from NUA followed the ensuing power struggle between the two factions of the NUA and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress led by Ms. Ferial Ashraff and Mr.Rauff Hakeem, respectively. Meanwhile, the Colombo District Court extended the enjoining order preventing self-proclaimed SLMC leader Mr.M.L.A.M.Hisbullah and several other office bearers from functioning in their posts. The Colombo District Court first issued this enjoining order on August 13 on a plaint filed by Dr.A.L.M.Hafrath, General Secretary of the SLMC challenging the legal validity of the leadership of Mr.Hisbullah. The plaintiff prayed court to prevent Mr.Hisbullah from representing or acting as leader of the SLMC as he is not a member of the politburo or high command of the SLMC. The inquiry into this case was fixed for August 31.
