"The administrative language of the North-East province is Tamil. Once the implementation of proposals devolving powers to the province is completed, people will see tremendous progress in economic, cultural and social spheres," said Mr.K.Shanmugalingam, Provincial Secretary to the Ministry of Education when inaugurating the morning session of the Tamil Literary Festival in Trincomalee St.Joseph's College hall, Friday.
The pageant started from the office of the Provincial Ministry of Education and proceeded to the venue of the festival along gaily-decorated roads, Vihare Veethi, Madathadi and Thirugnanasampanthar Road. The Provincial Tamil Literary Festival which was scheduled to be held last November was postponed at the eleventh hour when the Provincial Governor struck off the names of two journalists from the list of persons who were to be presented with Governors' Awards. The Governor has now agreed to include those two journalists in the Awards' list, thereby making a conducive climate to hold the festival, council sources said.
