The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sri Lanka Police Saturday recorded the statement of the former Deputy Defense Minister and Kandy district Peoples Alliance (PA) parliamentarian General Anurudhha Ratwatte in connection with the Udathalawinne massacre that took place on December 5 last year. General Ratwatte Saturday went to CID office to make a statement on a directive issued by the Police.
Police sources said that General Ratwatte was questioned in detail about his alleged links with the brutal murders of ten Muslims and the whereabouts of his two sons Lohan and Chanuka who are evading arrests in connection with the massacre. Meanwhile, two persons from Kandy had written to the Attorney General to order for the arrest of General Ratwatte and his two sons Lohan and Chanuka who were alleged to have been responsible for Udathalawinne massacre. Mr.A.A . Firdaus and Mr. Thawwek Mohamed Shifaz in their letter to the Attorney General had alleged that there was substantial evidence against General Ratwatte and his two sons Lohan and Chanuka for masterminding the killing of ten Muslim youths. They complained to the AG that it was evident that purpose of brutal slaying of ten Muslim youths was an act of vengeance against the people who openly opposed General Ratwatte at the last general elections. In the meantime, the Teledeniya Magistrate has postponed the identification parade of suspects who have been remanded in connection the Udathalawinne massacre for the third time when the prosecution told court that two main suspects Lohan and Chanuka, sons of General Ratwatte were evading arrest.
