The Tamil Eelam Police Service (TEPS) held a sports tournament at the Malathi Stadium in Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaitivu as part of the celebrations of the tenth anniversary of its formation. In his address, the head of the TEPS, Mr. P. Nadesan, saluted the service’s exemplary performance during the past decade, which he said had been rendered amidst difficult conditions of embargo and equipment shortage.
“Unlike other police services the world-over, the Tamil Eelam Police Service has maintained law and order without harassment, and ensured a trouble-free life for the people even in the midst of immense suffering and war,” Mr. Nadesan, said, addressing the crowd at the stadium. Order, discipline and integrity have become the hallmark of TEPS, Mr. Nadesan said. The Chief Guest at the ceremony was Special Commander of the Sea Tigers, Mr. S. Soosai. He distributed the prizes at the ceremony to winning sports teams in volleyball, netball and softball. Earlier in March, LTTE leader Vellupillai Pirapaharan attended a function to mark the decade of service by the TEPS. Speaking at that event, he also hailed the service’s performance. "The Tamil Eelam Police Force has performed exceptionally well for a decade with meagre resources. It has been built as a disciplined and efficient service. It should be developed into one that is on par with the best police forces in the world with modern facilities," Mr. Pirapaharan said.
