The Sri Lankan Navy is constructing a new base in Karampon, Kayts, near the Kannaki Amman landing point, a central location from where boat services are conducted for people traveling to Analaitivu, Eluvaitivu, Nainativu and other islands, the Jaffna based daily Uthayan reported on Tuesday.
The Navy began constructing the base since last Saturday. It has recently constructed another new base in Puliyankudal in Kayts. The Navy is currently camped at a building constructed by the paramilitary Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) close to the entrance of the landing point. Passengers coming to the landing point are ordered to alight from their vehicles and after their identities are checked, they are ordered to walk to the landing point. Meanwhile, sentry posts are being constructed at the landing bridge and passengers complain that this has made the loading and unloading of their luggage and goods very difficult.
