Tamil residents of Nainativu and Sinhalese who are there on pilgrimage gave a rousing welcome to the Liberation Tigers when they entered Nainativu Wednesday. The Liberation Tigers began political activities in Nainativu, one of the main islands off the Jaffna peninsula, Wednesday.
Mr.Semmanan, head of the political section of the Liberation Tigers for the islets of Jaffna led the 37 member -Tiger group to Nainativu. Posters were put up in many parts of Nainativu welcoming the Liberation Tigers. Sources said that navy personnel in Nainativu had ordered a Tamil civilian to remove the posters. When the civilian declined to obey the order, he was assaulted, residents said. Thousands of Tamils from other parts of the peninsula throng the island where the annual festival of Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman temple is on now.
