Youth found shot dead

The Chavakachcheri acting Magistrate A.Premashankar Friday ordered an investigation to the unexplained death of a Tamil youth whose body with was recovered with gunshot injuries Thursday evening from a paddy field close to the forward defense line of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp at Eluthumadduval, Thenamaradchchi in Jaffna district.

The dead youth was identified as Rasakon Sivachelvam aged 19 of Mirusuvil north, residents said. The Kodikamam Police handed over the body to Point Pedro hospital.

Rasakon had been missing since Thursday morning after he had taken his cattle to the grazing ground. At that time SLA soldiers from Panankoodal SLA camp were engaged in firing practice from about 10 a.m. till 3 p.m., sources said.

However residents claimed that bullets fired by the army from Panankoodal SLA camp towards paddy fields where cattle were allowed to graze killed the youth.
