Resettled families lack basic facilities

Hundreds of displaced families resettled in Mandaitivu village in Jaffna district lack even the most basic facilities, humanitarian agency sources said. Since the houses of many of these families were either completely destroyed or badly damaged during military operations, the resettled families are forced to live in temporary huts in public land.
The resettled families lack medical facilities, suffer shortage of drinking water and are not provided with access to adequate transportation services. Many existing wells in Mandaitivu village have become dry or are in a state of disrepair. These families desperately need help and are seeking assistance from the government and non-government organisations working in Jaffna to rebuild their lives, the humanitarian agencies said.
