Lt.Col Thileepan death anniversary concludes in NE[TamilNet, Thursday, 26 September 2002, 20:10 GMT]"The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam have begun peace negotiations with the United National Front government sincerely and with confidence that we can achieve full autonomy based on Tamil nationality, Tamil homeland and the right of self determination" said the Head of the LTTE's Judiciary Mr. Pararajasingham addressing the concluding ceremony of the week long observance in honour of the Tiger martyr Lt.Colonel Thileepan in Poonthottam, Vavuniya Thursday morning. Ponniah Rasamani, the mother of LTTE martyr Thusyanthan lit the flame of sacrifice to inaugurate the memorial function.
Balu Sellapah, father of two LTTE fighters garlanded the life size cut out of Lt.Col.Thileepan. Mr.Sivanandan, the village Officer presided. Mr.Pararajasingham further said that efforts are being made to find a solution to the conflict through the peace talks. The Indian army came to northeast of Sri Lanka in the name of peacekeeping force at a time when the Sri Lanka armed forces were weakened in the war. Tamils were confident at that time Indian government would work out a satisfactory solution to their problems. But India failed to provide anything to Tamils. Instead India worked closely with the Sri Lankan government, which was suppressing the basic rights of Tamils. Hence Thileepan began his fast unto death campaign putting forward five demands to the Indian government. Lt.Colonel Thileepan passed away on the twelfth day of fasting, as the Indian government did not bother about his five demands.
The cut outs were erected at several places in Jaffna mPuliyankulam and Muhamalai. The twelve daylong fifteenth death anniversary celebrations of Lt.Col. Thileepan concluded in Trincomalee Thursday. Commemoration meetings were held in Trincomalee town and at Sampoor in Mutur east. "Tamils cannot be deceived any longer as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are militarily might," said Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R.Sampanthan addressing the Thileepan death anniversary celebrations held at the Trincomalee office of the LTTE. Mr. Rajesh, political head of the Trincomalee town LTTE, hoisted the Tamileelam national flag. Ms Kanapathipillai Poomani, mother of Second Lieutenant Kumari and Veeravengai Thamilanpu lit the flame of sacrifice. Mr.Thennavan, head of the martyrs division of the LTTE Trincomalee district presided.
In Jaffna, the fifteenth death anniversary celebrations of late Lt.Col Thileepan were held Thursday at Nallur Kandasamy Kovil Veethi where he passed away on the twelfth day of fasting fifteen years ago. In Vadamarachchi area death anniversary celebrations were held at Malusanthi and in islands at Puliyankoodal Maha Mariamman Temple area.
