TNA demands better facilities for Mutur villages
[TamilNet, Thursday, 05 December 2002, 19:56 GMT]
"More than twenty Tamil villages in Mutur east held by Tamil Tigers are
without electricity supply and most of the roads in these villages cannot
be used by motor vehicles," said Tamil National Alliance (TNA) national list
parliamentarian Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham participating in the committee stage debate for the budgetary allocations of the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Ministry
of Transport held Wednesday and Thursday.
"The government should take immediate steps to provide electricity
to rural areas in the Trincomalee district," reiterated Mr.Thurairatnesingham. Mr.Thurairatnesingham brought to the notice of the minister the poor condition of the rural roads in the Trincomalee district especially in villages in the Mutur east area.
"Roads are not maintained north of Habarana as you travel from Colombo.
When we enter the northeast province it is evident that the roads
are in a state of abject disrepair," said the TNA parliamentarian. "We speak of resettlement of displaced and rehabilitation in their
villages in the northeast province. Without proper roads how could we
resettle and rehabilitate the displaced in the war-torn villages in the
northeast?" Mr.Thurairatnesingham asked.
