The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) politburo Monday night decided to ask all dissidents except those five expelled from the party last Monday to rejoin the party accepting the leadership of Mr.Rauff Hakim without any conditions. However the expelled five dissidents will not be taken back to the party, SLMC spokesman said.
The SLMC politburo Sunday night expelled Deputy Minister Mr. A.L.M.Athaullah, Dr.K.M.Hafrath, S.Subairdeen, Dr.A.Uthumalebbe and A.J.Mussamil for openly flouting the party discipline in an attempt to overthrow Mr.Rauff Hakeem from the post of president. The SLMC politburo elected Deputy Minister for Housing Mr. Basheer Segu Dawood as the acting new general secretary in place of Dr.Hafrath till the annual convention is held. However Mr. Basheer Segu Dawood resigned from the post Monday saying he was doing so in the interest of the party. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress politburo, which again met Monday night to review the situation following the resignation of Mr. Basheer Segu Dawood, elected Mr.M.T.Hassan Ali as its new general secretary. The appointment is to be ratified by the SLMC highest-level policy making body, party sources
