Sri Lanka's President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge met with a group of JVP members led by Wimal Weerawansa, the party's propaganda secretary, and held a lengthy discussion at the presidential secretariat today, sources said.
The discussion focused on the peace talks between the UNF government and the LTTE, the recent disagreements over the withdrawal of forces from High Security Zones and general security matters. The discussion also focused on the Norwegian embassy's recent role as consignee of broadcasting and communication equipment to the LTTE. Mr. Weerawansa of the JVP has accused the Norwegian embassy as supporting the LTTE, and has asked the president to take action to safeguard the country, saying that if she does not intervene, it will be a boon to the LTTE.
