The People’s Alliance (PA) General Secretary and a former minister,
Mr.D.M.Jayaretna, Monday said no discussion took place between the Sri Lanka
Freedom Party, the main constituent of the PA and the JVP, regarding the formation of a coalition. "There were no official level talks between the leadership of the two
political parties regarding forming a political alliance. However, both
parties would work against the present government jointly whenever need
arises," said M.Jayaratna.
"Some members of both political parties have met and discussed several
matters but the issue of forming a coalition between the two parties was not
discussed," Mr.Jayaratne told journalists. Meanwhile, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna said Monday it would hold a mass
rally and protest campaign on January 08 in Colombo against the present
peace process, privatization of state enterprises and high cost of living. Resettling the displaced in the high security zone in Jaffna will weaken the state armed forces in areas captured by SLA, said Mr.Wimal Weerawanse, Propaganda Secretary of the JVP and parliamentarian at a press briefing held Monday.
