Workshop charts educational development for NorthEast

Three-day workshop to give final shape to educational development projects to be implemented in the northern province in the year 2003 commenced Sunday at Killinochchi Maha Vidiyalayam in the Wanni region. Twelve zonal directors of education and their deputies in the northern province including Professor A.Shanmugathas of the Jaffna University participated, education sources said.

A similar workshop was held in Trincomalee last week for twelve eastern zonal directors and their deputies to finalize development projects for east. Mr.V.Ilankumaran, head of the Thamileelam Educational Development Council made the keynote address at the Trincomalee workshop, sources said.

Mr.R.Thiagalingam, Secretary to the provincial ministry of education, Mt.S.Mahalingam, Provincial Director of Education, the deputy head of the Thamileelam Educational Development Division Arun Master, the chairman of the Thamileelam Educational Development Council Rev.Fr. Francis Joseph, Wanni Educational head Gnanam and several others attended the first day workshop.

Provincial Director of Education Mr. S.Mahalingam said the workshop is tasked to formulate short and long term plans to develop the education system in the province. Mere planning will not suffice. The development plans formulated should be implemented with dedication and sincerity, said Provincial Director Mr. Mahalingam.
