SIHRN meets to discuss project implementation strategies

Discussions involving several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) functioning in the North East on defining strategies to implement projects to be supported by funds from the Sub Committee on Immediate Humanitarian and Rehabilitation Needs (SIHRN), led by the Director of SIHRN secretariat, Selvin Iranius, took place in Kilinochchi, Monday, sources in Vanni said.

The discussions started at 10 am and continued till 1.30 pm, sources said.

Representatives of seventeen NGOs operating in the North East attended the discussions. Political head of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), S.P. Thamilchelvan and International Co-ordinator for Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Dr. Jay Maheswaran attended the discussions on behalf of the LTTE, and Bernard Gunatilleke attended on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), sources said.

NGO representatives were briefed on the objectives, plans and activities of SIHRN. The discussions centered on effective ways of co-ordinating and implementing projects without duplication of efforts.

Efforts to strengthen the network of district level NGOs and to implement projects through this network were also discussed, sources said.
